type more than 1 note it justs skips and places the note next to the note i intended to have a chord on.
what can i turn on again to make chords in speedy?

Just a wild guess:
Is the CapsLock key on?

no. capslock is not on.
im not talking about the chord tool. im talking about writing multiple notes on one note in finale. when i enter a c note in the speedy tool. and i want it to be a c,e,g chord. it wont enter multiple notes on the c.
if i type c. and then try to make a e on the same note. it just creates a new note one beat forward.
how do i turn this on or off?

I'm not sure, which Speedy Entry method you are using?aleksander9 wrote:no. capslock is not on.

You tell that you "type" a C.
Are you entering notes in the Speedy Entry Tool by hitting letter keys on the computer's QWERTY keyboard?
Or are you using a MIDI keyboard for note entry in the Speedy Entry Tool?
Please explain.
In the Speedy Entry Tool you first specify the pitch you want to enter, and the note is not entered until you specify the rhythmic value, by hitting a number key.
(In the Simple Entry Tool it's the other way around: You first specify the rhythmic value, and the note is not entered until you specify the pitch).
Therefore, when you are in the Speedy Entry Tool, a C is not entered when you "type" a C.
Typing a C will only position the Speedy Entry crosshair on the 'C' scale step.
A note will not be entered until you specify the 'C's rhythmic value, by hitting a number key.
The only exception is Speedy's "CapsLock Trick" where the rhythmic value is "sticky" - a nice trick when you want to enter many notes of the same value, e. g. a gazillion quarter notes.
That's the reason why I asked, whether CapsLock was on.

Chord entry is fastest with a MIDI keyboard.aleksander9 wrote:im not using a keyboard, im using a qwerty keyboard.
but i have fixed it now! i checked the manual and i solved the problem.
i just had to press "enter" to make more than one note.
In the Speedy Entry Tool you just hold down the chord on the MIDI keyboard, and hit desired duration on the NumPad.
If you can't afford a MIDI keyboard, consider learning to use the Simple Entry Tool with QWERTY keyboard.
The tutorial document "EntryExercise.MUS" explains the secrets of the Simple Entry Tool.
Why learn the Simple Entry Tool?
Because some entry tasks are faster with the Simple Entry Tool.
If you don't have a MIDI keyboard, then (instead of using the Speedy Entry Tool) it's definitely faster to enter chords with the Simple Entry Tool, since in Simple Entry you can use the number keys on the QWERTY keyboard to add intervals on a selected note.
An example in "Simple Entry with QWERTY keyboard and entry caret" (Dm7 half note, Em7 quarter note, Fmaj7 quarter note):
NumPad 6 (...Half Note...)
D (...entering D...)
QWERTY 3 (...adding F a third above D...)
QWERTY 3 (...adding A a third above F...)
QWERTY 4 (...adding D a fourth above A...)
NumPad 5 (...Quarter Note...)
E (...entering E...)
QWERTY 3 (...adding G a third above E...)
QWERTY 3 (...adding B a third above G...)
QWERTY 4 (...adding E a fourth above B...)
F (...entering F...)
QWERTY 3 (...adding A a third above F...)
QWERTY 3 (...adding C a third above A...)
QWERTY 4 (...adding F a fourth above C...)

I need to enter a chord in a second voice. According to the manual, the only way to use the second voice is in speedy entry. I don't have a MIDI keyboard, started to use the second voice but for some reason, I can't enter a chord on the QWERTY keyboard in speedy entry. Help!

Using voices is tough for a beginner. Usually layers works better, but you usually need to hide unnecessary rests. Use the manual to read about layers and voices. They are different methods of note entry in a measure, and they have different uses.
If you have simple chords that you are trying to create, use Speedy Entry, and the navigate, using the arrow keys, to the place where you want to add a note to a chord, and then just press ENTER. Finale will add the note to the chord. Keep arrowing and add as many as you need.

I realize this post is nine years old, but I wanted to post a correct answer for future viewers. The answers listed seem to be addressing different issues than the original post is asking. The way to create chords in speedy entry in the same layer now is:aleksander9 wrote:hey i have a problem with the speedy entry.

1) Enter the first note (any note of the chord) as usual.
2) To add a note to the chord, position the crossbar at the desired pitch with the mouse and double-click.
3) Repeat until desired chord is complete.
This seems similar to using simple entry, but can be done in speedy entry without switching tools.

You can just press Enter instead of double-clicking, which may be easier.joeshie wrote:...

The keyboard shortcut in shown in the sub-menu.
Position the cross-hair on the desired scale step, and go to
Speedy menu > Speedy Edit Commands > Add Note
As you can see, the keyboard shortcut is the Enter key

Hi,
I see this post is quite old, however I have encountered the exact same problem. I believe the solution to @aleksander9 initial question is:
Click the speedy entry icon - go to "Speedy" menu on the top - uncheck "Insert notes or rests" option
Just did it, worked for me.
