I'm trying to change the tempo from a particular measure on.

I'm using the tempo tool, but when I play, the tempo is still the same as before.

Any idea?

If you are starting from just a few measures before your tempo change (spacebar+click) the playback will not incorporate any changes or articulations. Use the measure count box to go to where you want to start, and use the regular playback control to start the playback.

If that doesn't help, tell us exactly what you are doing. And what program you have.

I did that already, but tempo is still the same.

I clicked on the measure with the tempo tool, set the tempo I wanted, clicked ok. But nothing happened.

I'm using Finale 2008 for PC

Try this:
in playback controls, click the little triangle to give more options, find playback options at the bottom, click on that to open the record/playback controls, and check that dynamics and markings is set to "chase from measure 1"

I'm on a mac so the windows may have different names in your OS

To change the tempo from a specific measure, many of us use the expression tool. Just create an expression (use tempo marks in Finale 2009 and up, or create an expression and go to the playback thumbnail ->type->tempo->enter a value)

I've been having issues with the tempo tool for YEARS and this never dawned on me! It always goes to the new tempo one measure later. I was about to post a new topic asking for help but this solved my problem perfectly! Thank you.
