Is this true in all documents, or just some of them?
Have you recreated the Preference file?
You might also try Clear Selected Items > MIDI Data

Hi Mike,
I was having persistent crashing problems with Finale 27, Mac OS Ventura 13.5.2, on all files, even ones that had previously played back correctly last week. Every time I hit Play it would immediately crash.
Your suggestion to Clear Selected Items > MIDI Data cleared it right up; thank you very much for that.
I am, however, having trouble understanding what had gone wrong, and why this worked. Especially since files that previously crashed would now play back WITHOUT me invoking the "clear MIDI data" solution. I only needed to do it on ONE file and they all started to work again. Do you have any insight?

Finale 2014.5 and v.25 on Mac OS 10.12.6 (Sierra)
Does the Clear MIDI Data fix also work if one employs Audio Units? I notice that the initial playback of a newly opened Finale file crashes immediately, whereas all subsequent playback attempts show no such problem.
I got lucky while playing one of my files back - I was recording the session, and the 'crash' is evident on the audio. I tried to upload the audio file here but was unable to - are audio files allowed on this site?

For what purpose?
If you are getting crashes, I would try resetting your Preferences. There's a button on the Preferences page, or

I doubt hearing a recording will help solve the issue, but try zipping it and uploading it. If you haven't reset the preferences, though, that's worth a try, as is trying different audio drivers.
Thanks - the zipped file worked. This recording demonstrates the issue that I encounter very often upon playback. It didn't crash the program, but it stopped any possibility of playback (and I needed to close and reopen the file). There are other instances when the file simply quits (without this sound) and I must reopen it. Oddly enough, these occurrences only happen during the first attempts at playback upon opening a file - there are no problems with subsequent playback attempts.
I am playing Finale through AU Units using DLSMusicDevice.
