Playback Duration Bug w/ NP3?
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
Dear Friends -
Could someone explain what is happening in this snippet with the 2nd (written) E nat cutting out immediately? Is this an NP3 bug, or is it (as usual) just me?
FWIW I copied/pasted these bars directly from an in progress brass ensemble score (6441/T+5.) Also, I had already cleared and reentered the 2nd measure in the original.
Thanks!!

I tested this in v25 and v26 and the second E plays correctly.

P.S.: I retested it with HP set to None (same as Spacebar-click) and the E does choke off. So, that may be what you are experiencing.
P.P.S.: If I spacebar-click the second bar, E plays correctly. If I remove the tenuto mark on the first E, the second E plays fine with spacebar-click. Somehow with no HP, the tenuto carries over and interferes with the second E. With HP on, that doesn't happen, at least for me.

The culprit seems to be the playback effect on the tenuto articulation setting the duration to 105%. Setting it to None fixes it, and doesn't sound any different that I can tell, at least with SoftSynth. I'm nut sure why just re-entering it worked.

That is something I can explain. There are 2 of these articulations in the file. The one with the 105% definition is at the bottom of the list. I believe the other one, with 0 in the playback slot, was the one reapplied. Thus, no duration interference.

P.S.: Well, you posted while I was typing. We both discovered the issue, but you drew your sword first.

This rang a vague bell, so I opened up Finale 2005 and the tenuto in the default document there has duration = 105%. I now remember having to fix that at some point. So perhaps RVS Lee's file is from an old version, or has music copied in.
