I'm on Finale '03, PC.
I am doing a full orchestra score that needs to go to a composer who is on Mosaic The istrumentation is winds in pairs, 4331, harp, 5 part strings.
I send him the midi file. It opens just fine in his software.
BUT
Finale compresses all like instruments to one staff, so all 5 string parts are on one staff, all 3 tpts on one staff, etc.
When I open the Instrument list window, I get a list of all the instruments. When I change Tpt 1 to a different channel, it changes Tpts 2 and 3 to match it.
What I need is:
Tarck 1 - Flute 1
Track 2 - Flute 2
Track 3 - Oboe 1
Track 4 - Oboe 2
etc.
23 tracks total.
How can I assign each staff its own Midi Channel, and still have the correct instruments on each channel?
Need to put like instruments on individual tracks

Usually, if several instruments appear imported into the same staff, it is indeed because they share the same midi channel.
In Finale, go to the Instrument list window, and in the pop-up of the center column, define as many "new instruments" as staves, each one with a different midi channel. Assign the correct sound patch for each instrument.
Export again.

That fixed it! - The "New Instrument" was hidden in the drop down menu until I scrolled up to it. Just didn't see it.
Thank you!

One additional question...
How many many channels can Finale '03 handle?
This project will need 23 channels, I foresee some projects needing perhaps as many as 30.
