Hi all,

I'm having a problem:
I use Finale 2012b.r1 on Mac.
when I save a .mus-file as Midi-file, and import it into Logic, all tracks are named (in logic) 'Garritan Aria Player', instead of the instrument names.(Flute 1, Flute 2, Clarinet 1, Clarinet 2........)
In older Finale-versions (2009, 2010, 2011) this was no problem.
As I have to make a lot of demos with Logic (professional) and use scores consisting of 40 tracks or even more, it's impossible to find out which track is which instrument.

I hope someone can help very quickly!

Thanks in advance,

Domi

Unfortunately I don't have Logic, but here is an idea:

I suspect that Logic knows the General MIDI codes for instruments?
Instead of playing Finale through Audio Units, try playing Finale through MIDI (look in the MIDI/Audio menu).

MIDI playback in Finale will not sound as good as Audio Units playback (= Garritan), but I suppose that you are exporting to Logic because you want to edit the playback in Logic anyway.

Hello Peter,

I tried all possible ways, also it by playing the file through MIDI, the result was the same. (The export to Logic is meanly for use with
samples, so MIDI-sounds doesn't matter to me.)
It's really very strange, it's only by use of the 2012-version of Finale I have that problem, when I try with 2010 and 2011 everything works perfect.
Also I asked the Dutch distributor of Finale, and they tested it themselves and became the same result.
Unfortunately they couldn't solve the problem.

Has this been fixed in Finale v.25?

That assumes the problem is Finale and not Logic—not an issue that people have been complaining about so who knows where the problem is? It could also be pilot error. You can download the demo of 25 to find out for yourself.

You don't mention what version of Logic you are using nor your OS but Logic Pro X supports MusicXML Import/Export. Try that instead of MIDI.

I would also download the Dolet 7 plugin for older versions of Finale to bring MusicXML up to date.

Let us know what you find out.
