Editing Measure Regions

Hi

I'm writing a piece which contains 8 songs but I want them to be performed without a break. I've therefore assembled them into one continuous document but I'm trying to start each individual song from measure 1. I've added the measure regions and specified that they should start at measure 1 but after the first 2 songs, they just don't seem to want to do this. So I've got song 2 going from measure 1 - 97 but then the first measure of the 3rd song is 204. Which isn't the end of the world but I wonder what I'm doing wrong. Any help appreciated.

What you describe, is definitely not normal Finale behaviour.
I have often created documents with many measure number regions, e. g. 20 measure number regions.
Normally the measure number regions work without any problems.

Without seeing an actual Finale .mus document we can only guess.

I suggest that you attach a (small) Finale 2011 .mus sample document here for the gurus to examine.

Before you can attach a .mus document in this forum, you must compress it, e. g. as a .zip file.
And the file size must not be more than max. 100 KB.

a) To reduce the file size, clear the music.
We only need to see the empty measures, since we will examine the measure number regions.

b) To reduce the file size even more, delete all expressions from the dialog box Expression Selection,
delete all articulations from the dialog box Articulation Selection,
delete all chord suffixes from the dialog box…,
delete all lyrics from the Lyrics Window,
delete all text blocks.

I am not sure what happened (voodoo? magic smoke?), but the measure number regions 3 to 7 seemed to be corrupted.

I deleted them, and created new measure number regions, and now they seem to work correctly.

Thanks - yes that seems to have worked although I had to have 2 or 3 goes……. Now got my fingers crossed that next time I open the file they will still all be correct! It could possibly be because the first song was created in a much earlier version of Finale and I added the other songs on to it. Anyway, let's settle for woodsmoke!

Indeed!

An advice that has often been given in these forums:

When you get a new Finale version, take the time to set up a fresh, new template with the settings you prefer, and use that template for new documents.

If you open a document created in an earlier version, and use that converted document as a template for new documents, then your new documents may contain some "old junk data" from the earlier version.

To get rid of "junk data",
- copy/paste the music into a fresh, new document,
or
- export as MusicXML and import the MusicXML file into a fresh, new document.
