No matter which method I use to obtain swing playback, the saved MIDI will not play back with swing. The MIDI is intended to be played in a default program such as Windows Media Player.

This is a Finale 2002 file. I need the swing playback to clue a sextet of double-reed players!

Try this:

Add to the first measure an expression with playback effect set to "Play Tempo Tool Changes".
The expression doesn't have to be visible in print.
Since you are using Finale 2002, I suppose that you can hide a text expression from printing by putting the text in angled brackets, and selecting the option "Do not Print Text in Angled Brackets".

That should do it, at least for swing playback obtained with the Tempo Tool.

I haven't checked whether it will work for swing playback obtained with one of the other methods.

Thanks! That does the job nicely, and appears to work no matter which method is used to apply the swing.

Now let's hope that listening to the MIDI file will somehow manage to apply some swing to the players.

Hi #84,
I am interested how your sextet sounds, I am an oboe player...
Could you send me the file or tell me more about the piece?

Peter
