I recently loaded the Figured Bass Library in 2002 and it seems to be generating its own playback voicings (similar) to the way chord labels do. Is there any way to turn off the playback of these inserts?

If I understand you correctly, you don't want to hear the chords you have created during playback.
Go to Window menu, Instrument list.
For the staves that include some chords, click on the triangle located on the left side of the staff name to see more details (layer 1,2,3,4,chords, expressions) Simply uncheck "chords".
