Working on an iMac. I can't find any .ariax files on the iMac, and I've read that reinstalling GPO5 and COMB2 might solve the problem. To reinstall GPO5 and COMB2, is it necessary (recommended?) to uninstall them first before reinstalling?

Art,

I was told that it's best to uninstall before reinstalling. The reason is that a reinstall may or may not overwrite existing files, as it installs new ones. Consequently, if it sees a file already exists, it may just skip it, even if the file is corrupted. But if it has a clean platform, it should install everything as new.

Now, I have no idea if this is true, or not. It may be one of those things from 25 years ago that's no longer a concern. But I still do it, that way.

Thanks, Mike. It's been so long since I had to do this in Windows, I forgot if I uninstalled first or not, and it occurred me that Mac might be different.

What you want to uninstall and reinstall is the aria player. The libraries themselves are just data file; no reason to reinstall them.

Hm. What is the default Mac location for custom ensembles (.ariax files) the I create? My custom ensembles include combinations of instruments from GPO5, COMB2, and FIfF. I've created a few new ensembles on my new iMac, but I cannot find their location on my iMac in Finder or in Spotlight.

Spotlight won't find them.

Under Finder, Command F, paste .ariax into the Search field and they should list. At least mine do.

Thanks, Mike. I've found all the preset .ariax files. They are located where they apparently should be located. However, it's the customized ensembles I create that I cannot find. Finale tells me they are located in "com.Plogue.Aria," but Finder locates only the preset ensembles and my backups from Windows. In Finder and Spotlight I cannot find the com.Plogue.Aria folder in which the new customized ensembles are apparently placed, and I can't find the individual ensembles by name. What did Finale do with them?

What is the default location in Mac for customized ensembles (mixed ensembles with instruments from GPO5, COMB2, and FIfF)? Can you suggest how to locate my customized ensembles?

Thanks again.

This is a wild, ill-informed guess, but have you tried the User Library? To get there click on Go in the Finder menu with the Option or Alt key depressed and then click Library > Application Support > Make Music > Finale.

Thanks, David. I've checked there--.ariax files aren't there. Besides, I'd guess they'd show up there via Finder or Spotlight. I'm wondering if this is an installation error with the Aria player, with my Garritan libraries, or my unfamiliarity with Mac--or a combinationof all three.

I assume you guys are on Macs. WHERE are your custom .ariax files stored?
