Using latest Finale, latest Mac OS.
I know this is a FAQ but I don't know where to find the information.
I have an old score (2004). I saved it as a .musx so that much is up to date.
My intent is to reassign the instruments to the GPO5 sounds.
I check MIDI/Audio => Sound Map Priority.
GPO5 is duly listed at the top. So far so good.
I open the Window => Score Manager and the Instrument
List tab. SmartMusic SoftSynth sounds are listed.
I expect that.
But at that point I have no idea how to get it to see GPO5
instruments so I can select them.
What basic piece of information am I missing?
This question seems so fundamental I'm embarrassed to ask.
But I have a number of scores from 2002-2004 that I want
to update.
Thanks for the shove in the right direction.

Take a look at the first two top items in the MIDI/Audio menu.
Which option is selected?
Play Finale through Audio Units
?
or
Play Finale through MIDI
?
SmartMusic SoftSynth is for Play through MIDI
GPO is for Play through Audio Units

OK, I got it. I have several old scores from back around 2004, before MUSX and I guess
before Garritan and I'm trying to update them with improved playback sounds.
Anyhow, I'm not sure what I did in addition, but suddenly the beast reassigned
all the sounds. Problem solved. So thanks.

Is it not possible to use Softsynth sounds/instruments when "Play Finale through VST" is selected?Peter Thomsen wrote:Take a look at the first two top items in the MIDI/Audio menu.

However, the original poster, lynndavidnewton, wrote about the opposite problem - and he is using a Mac.
I could be wrong here, but I do not think it is possible to use GPO, when "Play Finale through MIDI" is selected.

I was answering the question about Softsynth in VST. GPO is not possible, as far as I know, when MIDI is selected.
