For percussion in general, Tympani and Bass Drum specifically, how does one indicate which mallets to use and get that sound during playback? (And Percussion Font is out of the question. Will it ever be updated to work???)

There are two issues, here. As far as I know, the Percussion font is to choose the symbol you want as a text insert. It has nothing to do with playback.

And that’s an entirely different kettle of fish, for which I have no answer...
