GPO5 – to buy or not to buy

I'm currently running Finale 2012 (Mac • Snow Leopard) with the supplied Garritan sound library running in Aria Player. Many of the supplied sounds are really not that great and I need a library with a more comprehensive range of instruments.

The question is whether to invest in GPO5 (assuming that will work reliably with 2012) or whether there are better options to explore. For the most part, I only need a good range of orchestral sounds with the usual orchestral percussion.

Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated.

If you're not very happy with sounds in the pared down version of Garritan, I doubt the full version is going to satisfy you. But even the finest libraries out there take a lot of work to get close to a realistic orchestral sound.

As far as getting more instruments is concerned, you could probably go with any library that has the instruments you want and get similar results.

Thank you for your thoughts. The basic library I have came with Finale 2012 and I was under the impression that this had been revised considerably in the intervening years. Some are really not that good.

I probably am fussy and that comes from spending my working life sitting inside symphony orchestras, but I'm also realistic. I know that there are better basic sounds six years on and hoped that my hunch about the GPO sounds being improved, might be correct!
