I have an arrangement of a big band song, but something peculiar has happened. I have Swing playback set in the Human Playback section and for the most part it's fine, except in this particular file. The playback is only swing when I have hi hat notes in the drum track, whereas when I use ride cymbal notes, the swing stops. In bar 5 of the file I uploaded, the playback swings correctly. But then at bar 15, when I use ride cymbal notes, there is no swing style. I've tried replacing the ride notes with hi hat notes, and when I do, the swing playback is restored. The same thing happens at bar 23 (swing) and bar 31 (no swing). I can't quite tell if it affects the horns as well, but I can clearly hear that the swing stops in the drum track.

I've been arranging music for a big band for 4 years and I've never had this issue with my template.

Finale 2012c for Windows. Thank you!

How did you set the swing overall for the file? I can't see it in the HP style.

I set it under the "Custom" option under Human Playback, the swing is set to Standard.

I didn't see that that was set there, so I set it to standard. However, then the HiHat swing seemed too tight.

Anyway, in my attached file, I removed all MIDI data. I think somehow there had been MIDI data involving swing that was interfering. I then set the swing to Light. I could have chosen Standard. In any event, the swing now works for Ride and HiHat.

Excellent, thank you! So I can fix this myself in the future, how did you remove the MIDI data? Is it just copy and re-paste, but using a filter to not include MIDI data?

Use Clear Selected Items and choose MIDI data only.
