Apple Airplay

Hi, has anyone used Airplay to display and playback files through an Apple TV?
I have and can display the music, and it scrolls ok in playback, but the sound always comes from my mac, the audio signal is not transmitted unlike other sources like youtube, spotify, etc.
Any thoughts?
