I have an imac running High Sierra using Finale 26. I have been using finale 26 for a while and then suddenly I opened it and received a code 7. I restarted as it asked and the same thing. I also received a message stating audio engines failed to load.

Have you run a ReWire enabled application in the mean time? That will generate the Error code 7, and you need to go to Audio/MIDI - Device setup and reset ReWire.

I was getting the error code 7 running windows 10 and finale 14. So I upgraded to v26 but I am still receiving an error code 7 when loading Finale. I checked reset ReWire but it is grayed out. Is there a solution to this problem?

Is there any other description in the error message besides "Code 7"?

Did you click on the Help button to see the possible causes listed there?

Audio Engine Error dialog box
[
Audio Engine Error
X Finale's audio engine failed to load.
Please restart Finale
Error Code: 7
[OK] [Help]
]

[OK] does nothing useful.
[Help] takes one here: http://usermanuals.finalemusic.com/Fina ... cshid=1923.

The gnomes of MakeMusic responded to my service request. I followed their advice and the Error 7 went away.
Sam said do this: In MIDI/Audio/Device Setup/Audio Setup Click the test Audio Output button.
If you cannot hear the tone try a different Audio Driver.

I clicked away like a thousand monkeys at a keyboard and eventually hit paydirt (sorry for the mixed metaphors).

ASIO - enabled - Error 7 - button greyed
ASIO - Disabled - Error 7 - button greyed
WASAPI - enabled - no tone
WASAPI - disabled - tone one time but the test button greyed out
WASAPI - enabled - tone. (Stop while you are ahead)

Somewhere along the road the DirectSound driver option disappeared so I could not test it.

I restarted Finale 16 and the Error 7 had gone and my sound issue had also gone away.

This morning after a cold start Finale 26 seemed to be working fine.
Funnily enough, the Audio Driver is now set to DirectSound.

Thank you Sam B.
