1)

Pressing the "play" button always works fine to play from the beginning of a piece.

If I "space-click" to begin playback from measures 1 through 14, I get zero sound. Measures 15 through 30 playback normally. Measure 31 to the end, the fourth of 4 parts does not make any sound, or is barely audible.

Tried different headphones, no headphones, tried Finale 2012, 25, 26, tried copy/pasting the notes into a new document. Nothing is helping and it's making me rip my hair out.

2)

I have a 6/4 bar: quarter quarter half quarterrest quarter. This goes into a 4/4 bar that starts with a half note. When I play back with the play button, there is always a pause between beat 6 and beat 1 of the next measure. When I "space-click," the gap is absent. There should be no gap at all.

Hope you guys can help. Really appreciate it.

Can you attach your file? The difference in the two playback methods is Finale's "human playback."

Here is the musx file.

Thank you kindly for having a look. I tried changing some human playback options (setting to "None" vs other options, etc.) without any change in playback behavior.

Measure 49 for example-- if I space-click, I don't hear any of the bass section until beat 3 where I can hear it super softly. If I keep space-clicking, eventually on one of the times, even 10 times +/- a few, I'll hear it normally. It's totally inconsistent.

It appears you may have applied HP in the MIDI Tool, thus hard-wiring all the HP data. Somehow, there seems to be undesirable results from this procedure. Try using that tool to remove this hard-wired data and see if it fixes things. It seems to do that for me.

Hi and thank you so much for your reply.

Could you please elaborate on what exactly I need to do? What is the MIDI Tool (don't see it under the Tools menu) and how do I use it to remove the hard-wired data?

Thank you again,

Click on the icon that looks like the 5-pin MIDI connector. At the bottom of the menu should be the Apply Human Playback feature. Choose that. Highlight the entire document and then use the feature near the bottom of the box that clears the HP data from the chosen measures.
