applying "mute"

Finale Print Music 2014.5 - iMac
I have two scores - in one the mute command works just fine, but on another Mute will not mute....Im probably doing something stupid, but i can't figure it out
In both cases
Play thru Midi (check)
Send patches thru midi for playback (check)
under "Device set up" Midi thru (check)
Under "Audio Unit Banks" Bank 1 = Smart Music Soft Synth 1
Under ScoreMaster, Device = Soft Synth 1
what am I missing ?????
