I have a piece with seven or eight instruments. The strings are at the bottom of the page. No problem.

If I am editing the bass or cello I would like to hear just that instrument. However, when I hit shift space left click the screen focus moves to the flute at the top. I have enlarged the view with ctrl + so that these old eyes can see where those darn dots and dashes are.

Yes I could shrink the view down with ctrl - to see the whole page playback but then it is too small.

Any suggestions? (Short of flipping the monitors on their sides.)
Honk if you love peace and quiet.

Have you tried Studio View? There the position stays when playback begins. You also have the option of changing settings (Mute, Solo, Volume) on the fly.

P.S.: I guess Spacebar-Click doesn't allow on the fly changes, as clicking over on the mixer controls stops playback. However, using the Playback Controls gives that option.

Wowser! Studio View seems to do the trick. Plus, as you said, I can mute selective voices.

Um How do I edit the thread title? It should read "View goes to top staff on playback". Excuse number 73: I dislocated my left pinky. (The pain! the pain!) It makes typing difficult and playing bass or guitar impossible.
