When generating learning tracks, I often have people saying that short, repeated notes of the same pitch often don't play as separate notes. I understand this can be caused by the MIDI OFF and MIDI ON signals stepping on each others toes, so to speak. I go into the MIDI tool, look for trouble spots, and shorten durations to 90%, which seems to take care of it. Probably even 95% would work the same way. If there are just one or two, no big deal. But sometimes, I have hundreds of measures to deal with. And it seems like it's a one-at-a-time procedure in Finale, even with Copy MIDI Data by Dragging.

Is there a better way?

Is this the sort of thing that a DAW would make easier? (I know nothing about them, or how to use them, but I will learn if I have to.

What sound are you using? For you part tracks, can you use piano, say, instead of voice? Since it has a percussive attack, you should always hear it.

I'm using piano. Both the cause and the fix were suggested by text support, and it works. It just takes time.

I've not noticed piano to behave this way. There might be a setting in your file that can be adjusted to be able to accomplish the task more quickly. Can you post a short sample file with this behavior to test?

You could create a new articulation like staccato, which sets the note duration to 90%.

You could apply that (invisible) articulation to all notes in your score and check later, whether the 90% work or if any other value is more appropriate. By changing that value you have an individual, faster and easier access to note durations than with the MIDI tool.

You could apply articulations, Staccato dots or line-dots, with the Apply Articulation tool, all at once.
Or make the note values half, w/rests.

I like Harald's suggestion. I'll try it out.

Zuill, I've spent so much time on this, I can't remember which spots in which pieces are the issue. But when I hear back from one of the section leaders, I will post a doc.

Thanks, all!
