Unable to apply dynamics to Oohs and Aahs

To economize space, I assigned choral "Oohs" to layer 1 and "Aahs" to layer 2 but cannot get Finale to honor added dynamics. I set "Dynamics & Volume" in HP to auto and tried adding dynamic markings, from pppp to ffff, to hairpins. For playback, the only way I can control the volume of the "Aahs" that are more than twice as loud as the "Oohs" is to attenuate them in layer 2, with Score Manager. Is there some other setting I can try to enable dynamics?

I have no idea why, but I've often experienced the same thing on layer 2--dynamics don't work. Have you had similar results using channels 3 and 4? Channel 3 has been my workaround in this situation.

For me, dynamic markings and hairpins work OK in all four layers in a new document created with the wizard. My version of Finale (2012) definitely cannot handle complex notation, for I rarely experience any problem writing simple stuff, even if for a large ensemble.

Placing pp at the start of a crescendo hairpin and ff at the end to define its character worked until my score got busy. Now, neither hairpins nor dynamic marking work in the particular score. Re-writing the instrument in a new document then copying and pasting it into the problematic score has worked in the paste...what a pain!

Are you using the term "channels" interchangeably with "layers"?

In the attached document, I hear the first two crescendos but the diminuendo in measure #7 fails, even if I add pppp at the end of the hairpin. The cresc. at the end also fails. The problem is more pervasive when the score has many parts. Can anybody throw light on the matter?

I suppose channels and layers could be interchangeable, but in most of my scores, they are not. Have you tried moving all the music from channels 1 and 2 to 3, or keeping all the music on channel 1 (and, of course, making the appropriate changes in the Aria player)? Have you also tried assigning different choir voices to the music and seeing if that makes a difference?

Nothing worked in my score. But I can apply dynamics to Oohs and Aahs in a new document. So again, my file must have become corrupted, which occurs most often in documents that have many glissandos and--especially--guitar bends. I notice experiencing fewer problems when working on my old system, running on Win 7. Maybe v2012 of Finale does not like Win 10 Pro.

I have these kinds of problems when my files were created in previous versions of Finale.

Sounds like the time has come for me to upgrade. Any idea when the next version of Finale is due?
