Playback not moving through the score

Hello All,
I'm new to the forum.Grateful for any help.
My playback has suddenly begun to behave strangely.
It plays back, but with no marker line, and no movement through the score.
Also, it will suddenly go quiet for a few bars and then come back to the set volume.

The first thing to try is to restart the computer.
