When I make changes to the audio setup, they don't stick next time I open Finale. The changes are made to FINMIDI.INI -- I see them in there -- but when Finale is started the default values are always back. I've taken to having to run a script every time.

Anyone seen this? Any suggestions on how to track it down? This is 2014.5. I have Finale 26, but I'm afraid to install it until I'm through with my current project.

Another thing is I have to use VST to hear the SoftSynth sounds. I don't mind that (though I don't understand it), but the really odd thing is that when I start Finale, I have to switch to MIDI and then back to VST before VST will make sounds.

Odd. I installed 2011, 2012, 2014, 2014.5, v25 and v26 on my new Windows 10 system back in April. Took me a bit to get some things working between Windows and Finale. The Audio sample rate was the most important step. Anyway, in 2014.5, I have no problem with my Audio settings sticking. Maybe there's a conflict with the new ASIO tool you're using. Anyway, the SoftSynth sounds play fine through MIDI for me.

No, I had been using Direct Sound up until the other day, without the new ASIO tool, and that wouldn't stick either.

It took me awhile to coordinate my Windows and Finale settings. Are you using [41,000] "Oops: 44,100" as the sample rate in Windows?

The choices are 44100, 48000, and up for ASIO. I'm using 44100.

Direct Sound says "controlled by Windows." Windows has the following choices:

Here's the script I must run every time.

This version does NOT work:

menu item "Play Finale through MIDI"
menu item "Play Finale through VST"
menu item "Audio setup"
choose drop-down "FlexASIO" near "Output"
choose drop-down "256" near "Buffer Size"
press Enter

This version does:

menu item "Play Finale through MIDI"
menu item "Play Finale through VST"
menu item "Audio setup"
choose drop-down "FlexASIO" near "Output"
press Enter
menu item "Audio setup"
choose drop-down "256" near "Buffer Size"
press Enter

Go figure.

I'm happy to report that some Windows update or other fixed this problem. The settings now stick!
