Okay, I'll keep this explanation as simple as I can.

When I play back a score through MIDI in a document, it works fine. I created a new document and copied and pasted a portion of the score from the one that does play back into it and it's just silent. All of the settings for MIDI thru, MIDI/internal speaker setup, Audio setup, Audio MIDI setup appear to be the same. I may have missed something but I don't think so.

Any help appreciated. Ultimately I'd like to import these scores into logic to try and get some better sounds & playback, and then final cut pro to be properly synced with video. Big thanks in advance.

Silly question, but do you have Playback Thru MIDI selected?

Yes.
I suppose it's not that silly as the latest version automatically has playback set to audio units, not MIDI, upon opening or creating a document.
This proplem occurs when finale is set to play through MIDI, to be clear.

Since one file plays and not the other, it sounds document specific. Can you post the non-playing file for us to examine?
