Hello Forum

I have a very simple set up.
Finale and just one midi keyboard.

When I play the keyboard, it sends midi to Finale, which sends it back to the keyboard.
And I hear a double note with a few milliseconds lag. Kind of unpleasant unvoluntary echo.

Tried to switch off midi thru, but Finale freezes (error -177)

Any other solution ?

I don't know about how Mac works here. If playback through the keyboard is not needed, and the hookup is MIDI 5-pin In/Out to USB, then I would only plug in the Keyboard OUT to the adapter IN. Leave the other plug NOT plugged in.

(System is High Sierra. Works fine).

Alas, my keyboard IS my playback device (Roland FP30).
It serves both for entry and rendering.
I constantly need to be at the keyboard (to find the right chord or melody), and then back to the computer to write stuff in Finale. I need them both to communicate at all time.
And it is via bluetooth. No cords.

1) Is there a "midi" solution (mapping channels or whatever, I know nothing about all the midi tech and details)

2) Is there a patch for the -177 error for midi thru error on mac Finale 25.5 ? Because if I tick "midi thru off", it solves my problem. But Finale exits as soon as I use simple entry...

Try this: Keep MIDI Thru on Smart. Then, in your Roland Keyboard, turn off Local Control. I found in the manual for your keyboard that you can have it on or off. When it is on, and connected to a DAW (in this case, Finale), it creates the doubled note you are hearing. By turning it Off, it breaks that continuous loop.

I had never thought of this. Thanks for searching.

Unfortunately, what it does is deactivate the direct sound of the keyboard to leave only the Midi signal sent by Finale.

The result is :
I do have one note only, but the lagged one ! There is a significant (a half second) between pressing the key and the sound...

But it was a really good attempt.

Solution really seems to be fixing the midi thru "off" option that makes Finale crash.

I did read the article. I am on Windows, and I believe this is a Mac only issue. It appears you are using v25. Maybe this was addressed in v26.

P.S.: Another thing to try: Keep MIDI Thru on, but choose the Built-in Finale sounds while inputting (the MIDI OUT setting), and hen change to the keyboard when doing the playback. I assume you only need the playback for recording purposes, or maybe live performance. Maybe there's another reason I'm not aware of. Finale sounds are pretty good, at least for monitoring while inputting.
