I am going nuts with this. I have a couple of measures where the notes are slightly different on Layer 1 vs. Layer 2 for each of two passes.
The attached file shows what I mean. How can I set this up so that the separate parts are played on their respective layers with each pass? The black notes on Layer 1 should play on the first pass and the red ones on the second pass.
These are the only measures in the entire piece that require this.
Boy, would I really appreciate your help! Many thanks in advance.

That works for MIDI, but not VST (Audio Units). For VST (or Audio Units), you would need to use expressions to change the layer to an unused channel when muting.

I think the discussion is not finished. The sample files work but I was unable to recreate them from scratch. I Searched for hours and I finally found. I consider myself as an intermediate Finale user since many commands and settings are still obscur to me, and the learning curve is steep. Here what I found:
1) It is obvious to select layer 1 or 2 depending on where you want to apply the Mute/Un-mute
2) Right click on the expression you have assigned. Select Expression Assigment:
- Show On: choose the layer 1 or 2 where you want your expression to apply
- On Playback, Affect: choose the same layer as above.
3) Go to ScoreManager and select the instrument of the layers: Click on the instrument in the second column to reveal the layers. For layer 1 choose MIDI channel 1 and for layer 2 choose MIDI channel 2.
Your file should play the repeats correctly. I think FInale must propose a simpler way to do this.
