So, I'm arranging a score for my Jazz Ensemble and I'm having sound issues. The drum kit isn't correctly labeled. The middle line of the staff plays and notates a woodblock hit when it should be a floor tom hit. I know you can change the noteheads, which is fine when I give it to a musician, but I want the playback to sound like a tom hit, not a woodblock. How do I change this?

We need more information. Even better, a sample misbehaving file. There are so many variables that we would be only guessing. There are Maps and Layouts, there's MIDI Softsynth and GIfF. Knowing all these things would help, but having the file is the best approach.

I have attached a file stating and showing what I mean. I should also state that this needs to happen to play through VST and not through MIDI

It is weird indeed that the middle line produces a woodblock sound (I confirm, even on an external Midi module).
Take a look at the Score Manager -> Drum Set Staff -> Notation Style -> Percussion -> Edit Settings.
I assume Drum Set is selected.
Edit it. In the Percussion Layout Designer window, go to that middle staff line, which says "Low woodblock", and change its notehead (similar to the other toms) and its sound (Note type : Tom : choose Floor Tom 1 o r 2). But first, you will have to delete one of the existing Floor Toms already in use to be able to apply it to the middle staff.

Do you know how to use the Percussion Layouts? I modified the Drum Set Layout to get what you wanted. If you need instruction on how to do this yourself, please ask.

Look at my file. It's much easier to accomplish than you are describing. In the Layout, just go the the Tom (MIDI Note 43) and select the staff position handle and drag it up to the middle line. It's okay to leave the woodblock on the middle line as well. Percussion instruments can share staff positions.michelp wrote: ↑Thu Feb 04, 2021 12:42 amIt is weird indeed that the middle line produces a woodblock sound (I confirm, even on an external Midi module).
