Corrupt file?
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
I've been writing a Christmas arrangement for big band and have encountered an issue I haven't seen in the 30 years I've been using Finale. During playback some (but not all) sections have taken to becoming 'push' notes. As an example I've written some piano lines in quarter notes that are now played as syncopations. Some trumpet entries that were written on beat one, are now pushed up to the and of four in the previous measure. I have no clue what has caused this, and have wasted hours trying to get my playback sorted while neglecting the writing process.
I've tried to attach the file, but I keep getting a warning that the file is too big. What gives?
Thanks in advance!

No, nothing like that. I've chopped most of the arrangement off, but I've left a section where this phantom syncopation starts. In measure 19 there are two quarter note 'shots', but they've been pushed up a half beat. The most noticeable and spooky example is in the piano part in the last two bars of the excerpt. The horns are play bell tones on the beat, and the piano should be doubling that. However, instead of entering on beat one it comes in on the and of four and continues to syncopate throughout.
I sure hope you can see where and why this is occurring.
Thanks! (I hope I've added the attachment properly...)

The "caret" articulation's "Playback effect" setting has been changed from the default of Change Velocity to Change Attack. The contextual help says
Yours are set to positive numbers yet it makes them play before the beat, so perhaps it doesn't work as advertised (quelle surprise), but that's what's causing it.When Change Attack is selected, the attack of the affected note is shifted forward or backward in time (without changing the note’s duration). A negative number tells Finale to strike the note slightly before the beat during playback; a positive number tells it to strike the note just after the beat.
True, but he didn't want it.
And it's for Playback only.
I don't get it.
If I want it, I'll write it in.
I play Jazz and have written many tunes and arrangements.
Never encountered playing notes ahead or behind the beat without some form of Notation or Instructions.
Having it happen on Playback only seems weird to me!
