The gray notes added by Patterson "beam across barline" do not sound on playback. I have control-clicked the measure in question to get to the Edit Frame and found that playback IS checked on all notes in the measure. As an experiment, I actually turned playback OFF on a couple other notes and yet they STILL play back. I'm looking an Entry Slot and using "nextentry" to move; Note Slot has "next note" grayed out. What am I doing wrong?

Post an example and someone will figure it out.

Hiding notes in Finale automatically mutes them, as that is usually what is wanted. So, when the plugin does what it does, those notes get muted. The easiest way to unmute them is with the JW change plugin. I have to do this as well every time I use the Beam Across Barlines plugin.

Thanks, Zuill. Another plugin (sigh)...I'll give it a try.

It seems like the problem is that the visible note, which is overstuffed in the previous bar, has had playback turned off. If you just turn on playback of the hidden notes you'll hear the note reattacked. I couldn't get JW Change to turn on playback of the overstuffed notes without turning on playback of the hidden notes as well. I was able to do it with the frame editor, though. If you just have a few bars, it's not too bad (keep pressing Next Entry until you get to the last note, then check Playback).

I tried this with Finale 2005b and Finale 2011, and neither exhibit the problem. I asked Mr. Patterson about this, and he thinks that something in Finale changed at some point, which caused it to break. We already knew that they don't seem to test the plug-ins when they make a new version. :-(

Heck, we’re not even sure they test the program.
