When I start playback using the Play button, it runs fine and then abruptly stops when it reaches a certain measure. It always happens at the same measure. If I try to start playback after that point, it doesn't play at all. It does this with or without human playback enabled.
If I start playback using the space bar instead of the Play button, it works fine, but of course that method doesn't use human playback.
I have observed this in three files, all created in Finale 26. It happens at a different measure number in each file: 33, 45, and 189. There is nothing special about these measures, no repeats, expressions, etc.

Check the playback settings. There's an option to always stop at a given measure. Maybe that got inadvertently set. Otherwise, post your file here and someone will figure it out.

Yes!!! Thank you so much! That was silly.
But I'm suspicious that I've used Finale for years and never had this problem, and now in version 26 somehow that setting keeps getting set............

I'm new here. Am I supposed to mark this post as "solved"? I don't see a way to do that.

Generally the users here do not mark a problem as “solved”.
You can edit your first post, and add a “Solved” to the subject field.
