The manual states that in the "Audio Clip Attributes" dialog, the first value is the measure #, and the 2nd value is the beat number. It ignores explaining the third value (four digits). So, to start playback of an audio clip added to my document, from the 3rd beat in measure #1, I tried the following:

Start in Score: 1/3/0000

But this setting has the clip start on beat 1 in the 2nd measure (4/4 time). I managed to have the clip start on the 3rd beat in the first measure, using the following setting:

Start in Score: 1/2/1000

This works but does not follow what is stated in the manual.

What then would the settings be to start playback from, say, the offbeat of the 3rd beat in measure 1? Would I be correct in interpreting the setting as Start in measure 1, 1st beat + 1/2 beat?

Start in Score: 1/1/0500

It would be helpful to know if the unit of 0500 is milliseconds, percentage, or something else.

I don't know why the measure number is off by one. The measure number is probably the "actual" measure number instead of the "defined" measure number. Do you have a pick-up measure, or a measure region that doesn't encompass the first measure?

The playback controls have at same i|j|wxyz format. According to the manual entry for the playback controls, that third number is EDUs. A quarter note is 1024 EDUs. The audio clip thing is probably the same. Whether that EDU number is from the beginning of the measure or the beginning of the beat you specify, I don't know. I would guess the latter. So to start an eighth note later, try putting 512 in that field.

I can confirm that the playback setting 1|3|0512 starts on the "and" of 3 in measure 1 (4/4).

Thanks for the clarity.

No P.U. measure in my score, and my audio clip has no leader; so it should commence with Finale. The sample rate of the audio clip is identical to what is registered in Finale (41.1kHz). For accurate assessment, I slowed the tempo and get the following results:

1/3/0000 Playback incorrectly starts on 1st beat in 2nd measure.
1/2/1000 Playback starts on the 4th beat in 1st measure.
1/3/0512 Playback starts on 1st beat in 2nd measure.
1/1/0512 Playback starts on the offbeat of the 1st measure.

But the above is by no means consistent. Sometimes playback is concordant with the parameters. So I guess I'll need to play with the settings. Your manual is superior to mine as no mention is made of the units for the third parameter. Knowing that the unit is EDUs is very helpful.

The units are discussed in the Playback Settings section in the manual. I didn't look at the Audio Clip Attributes documentation.
