Hello All,

When I selected "Piano" as an instrument in a score in Setup Wizard earlier this morning, it would not even create a score, and the program froze while loading Steinway Piano (Piano_m_G5_0002102C.audio).

So, I chose a different instrument (Electric Piano), for that same score, and was able to create the score from the Setup Wizard and enter notes without issue. NOW, when I try to play back the score's audio, the same file tries to load (Piano_m_G5_0002102C.audio), and it locks up and freezes Finale, and I have to force quit the program.

I'm on Finale 27.2.0.142. My current operating system is Mac OS Monterey 12.5. I'm on Apple Macbook Pro 16-inch, with the M1 processor. I need to resolve this very soon, as I have a deadline for 5 charts coming up, and they absolutely have to be done in Finale. I submitted a request to Make Music Finale, but am under a deadline, and need help asap. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Assuming you’ve already restarted the computer…

Try exporting the second doc as an XML, and import it back in. That often clears up internal corruption.

Failing that, I would refresh the preferences.

Hey Miker,

Thanks for the suggestion!

I was able to play back the score without Finale freezing, but the sounds are wrong. I'm getting strings in the Drum Set staff, and some kind of weird chime sound in the Piano staff.

Will it play through MIDI, rather than through audio units?

Yes, it will play through MIDI, but with the wrong sounds. I get no sound at all when I go through audio units. Also, when I change it back to "Play Finale Through Audio Units" from "Play Finale through MIDI," the program freezes. So it looks like I have multiple causes for freezing.

I tried re-installing Finale, re-setting Preferences and exporting and importing XML like you said, ... and it still freezes.

Have you located that file, Piano_m_G5_0002102C.audio?

Edison from Make Music Support shot me this, and it worked!!

Close any open applications
Open a new Finder Window
Choose Go > Applications from the Finder Toolbar at the top of the computer screen
In the Applications folder, find your "Finale" icon and drag it to the Trash
Locate any "Finale" icons on your Dock and move them to the Trash as well
In the Finder program toolbar, choose Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy & paste the following location:
~/Library/Preferences
Click Go
In this Preferences folder, find a file named "com.makemusic.finale27.fprf". Drag it into the Trash
In the Finder program toolbar, choose Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy & paste the following location:
~/Library/Application Support/MakeMusic
Click Go
Verify that you have no personal files in the "Finale 27" folder (or its sub-folders)
Drag the "Finale 27" folder to the Trash
In the Finder program toolbar, choose Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy & paste the following location:
/Library/Application Support/MakeMusic
Click Go
Drag the "Finale 27" folder to the Trash
Empty your Trash
Restart your computer
Re-install Finale by downloading it from your MakeMusic account
Relaunch Finale and see if the issue has been resolved

Many thanks to all who gave the time to address my plight. I owe you a beer.

-Steve

That file is part of GIFF (Garritan Instruments for Finale). It's the actual audio sound file that the piano uses, so no wonder that Finale is complaining.

If I were you, I'd reinstall Finale, or the GIFF portion thereof.
