For some reason, when I change the metronome speed [regulating the playback speed] nothing changes. Do you have any suggestions?

Where are you changing the tempo? The box in the playback controls is only the initial tempo. Any changes after that should be made by creating tempo expressions.

If you are modifying one of the tempo marks built into Finale, they foolishly didn't set it up so that changing the metronome value will work. To fix it, right click on the tempo mark in your score and pick Edit Text Expression Definition. Then click the playback tab and check Match playback to metronome marking text.

When that happens to me I delete whatever group of Measure Expressions that includes Tempo Marks.
Then I make a new Measure Expression Tempo Mark, and all is fine again.
