Hi folks.......
I have a guitar part in a big band score where I do NOT want slash or rhythmic notation to playback (i.e. no chords), but I do want written notes to sound. When I enable playback, Finale annoying plays whatever note I entered to notate rhythmic playback, which is distracting, to say the least.
How can I silence rhythmic playback and still get written notes to sound?
Thanks!

If I understand you correctly, you need to disable chord symbol playback - right?
Chord Tool.
Chord menu > Enable Chord Playback (de-select)
Chord Tool.
Chord menu > Enable Chord Playback (de-select)

No—I have that. But in cases where I have Rhythmic Notation, Finale wants to play the "reference notes" I entered to establish that rhythm (the entered notes—not the chord symbols). I need to also get rid of that.Peter Thomsen wrote: ↑Wed Nov 02, 2022 5:06 pmIf I understand you correctly, you need to disable chord symbol playback - right?

If you have the Rhythm Notation “reference notes” in a separate layer, then mute that layer.
To do so, go to ScoreManager > Instrument List
I just tried it, and it works for me.

OK—I tried moving the ref notes for the Rhythmic notation from Layer 1 to another Layer (tried 2, 3, and 4) and I ended up with blank measures.I take it it didn't look that way to you. Any idea why?Peter Thomsen wrote: ↑Wed Nov 02, 2022 10:11 pmIf you have the Rhythm Notation “reference notes” in a separate layer, then mute that layer.

From your description it sounds like you have everything in Layer 1 - right?Rick_in_MN wrote: ↑Thu Nov 03, 2022 9:47 pm… OK—I tried moving the ref notes for the Rhythmic Notation from Layer 1 to another Layer (tried 2, 3, and 4) and I ended up with blank measures. I suppose that you - by your words ‘blank measures’ - are saying that the notes are not shown - even if they are there (= the notes are not deleted) - right?
When you are using two or more layers, you can choose whether notes in other layers should be shown.
Look in the dialog box Alternate Notation.

Thanks for the suggestion… seems like it should work, but oh my, what a gawdwful mess that created.Peter Thomsen wrote: ↑Thu Nov 03, 2022 10:11 pmWhen you are using two or more layers, you can choose whether notes in other layers should be shown.

When I copied passages from the piano part and then changed the alt. notation settings for layers in the guitar part, the piano part is affected.
Chart is due today. I'll just live without the playback.
