Pizz doesn't switch to Arco
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
I am currently using the latest Finale edition, but I opened a piece created in older version. To my surprise, Pizz. and Arco technique marks do not affect the playback. More specifically, the cello starts with pizz. ignoring the consequent arco markings.

I regularly struggle with the same problem. There are two things you can do that very often (but not always) help (but not solve the underlying, as of yet unknown issue):
1 Choose the Expression tool and double-click a note or measure. The Expression Selection dialog box appears.
2 Click Create (or click an existing marking and click Edit). The Expression Designer - Main dialog box appears.
3 Click the Playback tab and choose Type > Dump.
4 Enter the Values 3, 144, 0, 127 in the successive boxes.
5 OK > Assign.
- Check the piece for incomplete or overfilled measures (Plug-ins>Note, Beam and Rest Editing>Check Region for Durations…). When the offending measures are corrected, Finale often corrects playback as well.
- Create an expression with a MIDI data dump and attach that to a rest before the pizzicato or arco that is not being played.
1 Choose the Expression tool and double-click a note or measure. The Expression Selection dialog box appears.
2 Click Create (or click an existing marking and click Edit). The Expression Designer - Main dialog box appears.
3 Click the Playback tab and choose Type > Dump.
