Pizz doesn't switch to Arco

I am currently using the latest Finale edition, but I opened a piece created in older version. To my surprise, Pizz. and Arco technique marks do not affect the playback. More specifically, the cello starts with pizz. ignoring the consequent arco markings.

If you can attach your file here, someone can investigate.

I regularly struggle with the same problem. There are two things you can do that very often (but not always) help (but not solve the underlying, as of yet unknown issue):
  • Check the piece for incomplete or overfilled measures (Plug-ins>Note, Beam and Rest Editing>Check Region for Durations…). When the offending measures are corrected, Finale often corrects playback as well.
  • Create an expression with a MIDI data dump and attach that to a rest before the pizzicato or arco that is not being played.
Here's how to create a data dump:

1 Choose the Expression tool and double-click a note or measure. The Expression Selection dialog box appears.
2 Click Create (or click an existing marking and click Edit). The Expression Designer - Main dialog box appears.
3 Click the Playback tab and choose Type > Dump.
4 Enter the Values 3, 144, 0, 127 in the successive boxes.
5 OK > Assign.
