Any way to stabilize a rall. tempo alteration?

Almost always, a rall. or rit, will stop working for me in playback. I then select another shape or duplicate rit. and rename it as rall. or vice-versa. But this workaround also fails or does not work for very long. Clearing the MIDI data fails. I am convinced Finale hates editing as this issue raises its ugly head only after editing notation. The Tap Tempo tool always works but this option slows down my workflow. I'm wondering what others do to get around this bug.
