Hello Everyone!

As far back as I can remember, adding the "wavy trill line" above instruments has caused Finale to crash for me. (Specifically, adding "shakes" to trumpets - so without the "tr" preceding it). If it just sits there in the score - mocking me - things seem to be fine, but as soon as I hit play, Finale instantaneously crashes.

While this has gone back a few generations, I'm currently using 27.3.0.137

Is this a common issue, and if so, does anyone have a fix for it?

Thank you in advance!!

Can you attach an example? There are several factors which could cause it.

Sure! Thank you - here are 3 screenshots: (Naturally, the post reversed the image numbers, but you get the idea, ha!)

1. The "offending actor" (I don't get this error when I delete the trill extension)

2. Finale initially crashing

3. My attempt at trying to screenshot the error box as it actually closes quickly on me.

I know about a decade ago there wasn't really a solution to this problem other to make a custom line - I'm hoping there is a troubleshoot for it now - but if I need to break out the custom line tool, so be it!

I think we need to see a .musx file, not just a screen shot. You can delete all but a small passage that exhibits the problem.

Oh! No problem - here's the full file:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/6ytutzrao4gzd ... .musx?dl=0

The issue is on page 24. Again - assuming that's the issue, since when I deleted it, everything is fine, but when it's there, the crash happens 100% of the time.

Thank you!

It crashes for me, too. If you use the SmartShape glissando tool instead of what they call the trill extension tool, you can get the same graphic, though it might not play back the way you want.

OK! At least I'm not going crazy and it's happening to other people too. I don't need to hear stuff like that while I'm writing, so I'll just have to switch to using custom line as you mentioned.

Thanks for the help!

It's not a custom line. It looks like this on the palette:
