I just installed v27 on a new Windows 11 computer after my other one died. I'm getting no sound on playback. I have no midi device attached; just using the internal mic and speaker setup. Audio works fine in other programs, just using default settings. Using Play Finale thru MIDI — is that the right choice? I re-installed Garritan but not sure it's working. Instrument list is only showing Smartmusic SoftSynth.

Try a different choice under Audio Driver--WASAPI or ASIO. Try playing both through MIDI and VST. SoftSynth is good for now--Garritan will muddy the waters. If you have another program open that's using audio, try closing it before launching Finale.

My only choices are Direct sound or WASAPI. I've tried both. Closing iTunes and Audacity and re-launching Finale didn't help.

And VST vs MIDI? Maybe it's time to file a support ticket.

Yes, same problem with VST. So next step I tried another file and playback was OK. So apparently my file was corrupted. I copied the contents into a new file and playback was OK.

All's well that ends well, I guess. Are you sure in your original that the instruments weren't muted in the Score Manager or the volume turned down in the Mixer?

Made me look! But no, volume was up and no instruments were muted.
