Hello all. Finale 27 with noteperformer 4, windows 11, blah blah
Trying to use the "play first/second pass only" commands to create different dynamics on a first or second time thru a repeat is not working. I have also tried using a dynamic marking but using controller 7 for playback definition and setting the volume number manually. No bueno.
Is this an Aria/Garritan problem, a noteplayer 4 problem, or some delicious hybrid of both?
Does anyone have a workaround (probably involving hidden dynamics with different alignment points in the measure or something equally as cumbersone)...
Thanks
1st/2nd time dynamics with noteperformer 4

Thank you.
This works for me (both dynamics are attached to the same note) in Finale 2014.5. I did set velocity = 127 for f and 10 for p so it was obvious. Works with GIFF and SoftSynth, both with "Play Finale through VST" ("Play Finale through MIDI" no longer works on my system), and with or without Human Playback. It works with the p hidden as well.
BUT, in Finale 27.3, it does NOT work with GIFF--both dynamics play at the same volume. SoftSynth still works. So i guess there's your answer--they broke something. I fear you may be SOL.

I am assuming GIFF is Garritan Instruments For Finale.
I don't use this sound family, only Noteperformer. So what you are saying is that there is something in Finales sound processing code that happened somewhere before version 27 that negates both the first/second time only commands in the expression designer box AND the controller 7/volume setting ?
Man, that stinks. Anyone think of some some super clunky workaround? All I can think of is create an "audio only" version on the file where the first and second times are written out, without using first and second endings. Use the original file for printing but the long-form file for audio. Stinky, but works.
Anyone got anything better?

As I say, it still works with SoftSynth, so I don't know. I confess to not knowing how GIFF, Aria Player, NotePerformer, etc., etc. fit together. Since you're not using GIFF, there's hope, I guess. Try playing the file I've attached above with NotePerformer and see what happens. You can also file a support ticket with MakeMusic, who might have advice.
