Human playback no longer available in staff sets?
Moderators: Peter Thomsen, miker
I just upgraded from 25 to 27 and am surprised to see that I can’t get human playback to function while in scroll view and a staff set. Could it be that such a useful thing has taken a step backwards with the upgrade?
Human playback works in page view, parts, studio view, but the one view I use the most, staff view subset to eliminate from the screen the staves I’m not dealing with, human playback seems to be disabled. Is this normal or something I can try to fix?
And if this really has been eliminated as a function, PLEASE bring it back! It works fine in my old version 25. Dynamics, trills, glisses, etc.
Thanks.

I just tested it and as you report, it doesn't work. I also tested it on ver. 26 - doesn't work there either. Suggest you fill out a bug report with MakeMusic, for all the good it will do.

Hmm, it works for me with Finale 27! Could be Windows vs Mac. Can you double-check heinzfan? Make sure it plays in Page mode.

If you want, sojay, attach your file or part of it here and tell me which staves are in your staff set, and I'll try it. Meanwhile, see if this works:

Motet, your file works - until you put notes in one of the other staves. Then HP doesn't play. Perhaps I'm missing something here, but I believe the OP is correct. I use Windows so it's not Win vs Mac.

HP still plays for me with notes in other staves. Maybe you can upload a file demonstrating the problem?

Motet - your example works as long as notes have been entered in the staff above the whole note staff. Move those notes to the fourth stave with a blank staff above the whole note one, and HP doesn't work when staff set 2 and 4 is selected. Try it and let us know the results. It's a curiosity.

You're right--it seems that if the top staff is empty in that measure, HP doesn't play. The work-around, then, would be to add a staff at the top of the piece, fill it with real whole rests with the plug-in, then hide it.
