VidPlayVST or Other Video Plugin?

Hello Everyone!

I already tried getting an answer to this at Zendesk but no such luck. So, I'm using Finale 27.3 on Windows 10 for film composition.
I compose for film by notating as I watch the video, not the other way around where notation is secondary.

I am having great difficulty using ReWire within my DAW (Sonar by Bandlab.) I can get it up and running just fine, but since Sonar takes over MIDI, I can't hear preview notes while using Speedy Entry, so there is no way for me to actually...you know...compose.

As an alternative, I heard of someone using VidPlayVST as a plugin within Finale, which I bought, and was able to get running, but for some reason, I can't figure out how to get the video to sync with Finale - it just sits there on the first frame not moving, so I'm still at square one. So I have two questions:

1. Has anyone figured out a ReWire workaround where you can both use this tool, but also enable Finale to let you hear preview notes in Speedy Entry, and not just on playback?

2. Could someone walk me through setting up VidPlayVST to work properly within Finale, and sync up?

3. Does anyone have an even better idea than the two mentioned above that I am not aware of?

Thank you all so much. I'm getting really tired of needing an old copy of Finale 2012 for film composing, and Finale 27 for all other engraving needs.
