I am running Finale 2003 with WIN XP and SB Live! and and had recently used 2002 where this problem had never occured. I don't know if my midi input and output are setup right. I loaded a midi file and the song played through a few times but then locks up on PLAY or hangs on a note during play. I've tried all the different input and output settings but nothing works. I have also changed my sound card's output in control panel. And yes, I did try other midi files. I think I need that older version of the finmidi.dll . Anyone know what is going on!?!

Through reading many posts in the archives and at http://forums.makemusic.com:82/~techsupport , I understand that my problem is that I need the older version of finmidi.dll . The Finale 2000 one? :x Could someone please post it.

I was reading the faq on the Coda finale forum ("knowledge base"), and found this:

[article number 19453]
Why does MIDI playback skip or crash after upgrading Finale 2001 on my Windows 2000 system?
Since upgrading to Finale 2001c or 2001d, my MIDI playback seems to skip, or even crash at times.

[answer:]
In order to address previous MIDI problems seen on some systems, a new FINMIDI.dll was included with Finale starting with version 2001c. This is the file that is responsible for communication between Finale and MIDI devices. Unfortunately, on some Windows 2000 systems, the new FINMIDI.dll does not work as well as the old one did. It just goes to show that one .dll can’t please all the computers all of the time.

Please contact winsupport@makemusic.com, and request a copy of the old FINMIDI.dll. Replace your current FINMIDI.dll with the.dll you they send you.

I am experiencing the same sort of problems, and it looks like I will have to seek this same fix.

Hope this is helpful. Lest you think yourself home free, however, I must tell you that I have sent an email to the address given, and have had it tossed back at me. I'm trying again...

Apparently, the 2003a update is supposed to fix it...

I had the same problem with Finale 2003. Copy the FINMIDI.DLL from the Finale 2004 Demo into the Finale 2003 folder. That fixes the playback lockup problem.
