Hi,

From Finale 2003, we try to get the sounds of the extension cards of the JV-1080.
1 We cannot get the right sounds from the extension cards, for instance a violin from the orchestral card. Instead Finale always play the internal sounds of the JV.
2 there are two parameters of bank 1-16 and 17-32, but we cannot change the banks
3 drum map; we have set up a drum map in Finale in order to get various tabla sounds from the World card. We are on channel 10. We get all kinds of clarinet or guitar sounds, instead of the prcussion we ask for.

Any idea. Thanks for help.

You can load the sounds from your JV-1080 on your soundcard and playback using the JV sounds, including the expansion boards. You must take the output(audio) of the JV and run it into the line in of your soundcard. Also, you need to take the MIDI out from your soundcard and go into the MIDI in of the JV.
In the Finale MIDI Setup dialog box, you will need to select something like "MIDI UART" or other non-specific MIDI out. The MIDI through should be off.
I am using F2003a and and a Roland XV-3080 and this works fine for me.

Good Luck
Roger

Hi

We found the solution after digging in the JV book and in the Finale help:

The Roland JV need these codes to otput a sound of one of the cards
Most Significant Byte = , Less Significant Byte = , Program Change = ...
The values of the parameters are given in the Roland JV book p79

For instance, you can have a first try by a sending a value from Finale:
Menu MIDI
SEND MIDI VALUE
check all midi channels
check patch
bank select 0 = 84 (MSB)
bank select 32 = 0 (LSB)
program change = 15

In order to program various instruments/tacks

Menu MIDI
MIDI SETTINGS
Midi In (Unitor In 01 for example)
Midi Out Unitor all (for examples)
Base Channel = 1 (important )

Menu WINDOWS
Instrument list
P Play Check if you want it to be played
S Solo
Channel: enter the number of the desired MIDI channel corresponding to the track
B Bank: Check this and Finale will open a dialog box
Patch:scrolling menu. Choose bank select 0, Bank select 32, program change
Example for the clarinet 82 2 102 on Card B

For the drum kit choose Channel 10

Percussion Map:

Make sure that the percussion track has Midi channel 10 in the instrument list as explained above

- Choose “staff tool”
- Double Click staff attributes (upon the Key) on the percussion staff
- Check “ignore key signatures”, uncheck “key signature”
button ‘Select’.
Percussion map appers
For a new set
Choose a line eg ‘Drum Set’
Duplicate, rename
Button ‘edit’
A percussion map appears
The left column is fixed and corresponds to the notes of the Finale score
In the Playback column put the number of the sound in the JV to be assigned to the corresponding note
Choose the notehead and the name of the sound.
Foe every note you assign make sure to check ‘Highlighted note’
Choose the appropriate settings
- For Edition: check “Highlighted note” for the notes you want to map, change the playback note number, staff position and name for each one.

Best regards

Daniel Schell
