My Finale 2003a has been inserting rests automatically to fill up the remaining beats in a measure. After placing three quarters (in 4/4), for example, it will add a quarter rest.
If someone knows where there's a setting that would turn off this feature, I would appreciate hearing about it.

Are you using Simple Entry Tool or Speedy Entry Tool?
What you are looking for, is an option called "Fill with Rests at End of Measure".
The option is available (and can be toggled off) separately in both Simple Entry and Speedy Entry.
In Finale 2003 I think the options were located in
Simple menu > Simple Entry Options...
and in
Speedy menu > Speedy Options...

You are so right. The checkbox for filling the measure with rests is in Speedy Options.
