midi in with hyperscribe not working

I am using Finale 2006 with a midisport uno. My keyboard and laptop are communicating for the midi out - but not the midi in. Midi thru is off, under midi setup the midisport uno is listed for both the in and out under device but it will not record into the staves. What am I doing incorrectly? Thanks!
