I am hoping to get a simple, non-technical answer to my question. I have just upgraded to Finale 2011 for my iMac (system 10.6.4), and I want to make sure I am properly connected with my old Yamaha KX88 controller. With my old Mac and old Finale I used to go through a rack-mounted synth. Now I just want to use the sounds provided by Finale 2011. I want to use Hyperscribe and Speedy Entry. I don't need separate amplifiers; the sound from the iMac will be just fine for now.

My questions: What is the proper way to connect from my KX88 keyboard into the iMac? Can I plug MIDI into a USB hub going into the back of the iMac? or do I need a UX device instead? I read somewhere that a USB hub is not recommended. And will I need to install a software driver?

I have had numerous MIDI troubles in the past and I am hoping to get this started correctly. Looking forward to hearing from someone about this. Thanks.
