Will Roland Sound Canvas Work as a Sound Source or?

My new computer doesn't have the 15 prong type connector into the sound card that I used on the old computer. I am looking into buying a better sound card possibly and at least something to make it work again.

Do I just need a different MIDI cable, like double MIDI to USB?

Would my Sound Canvas work as a go between to improve sounds?

Should I buy a new soundcard and what type?
