I have two layers in the treble clef and some visual crowding. When I drag a note to uncrowd the area, it snaps back into the crowding when I click the cursor in the blank area outside the stave. How do get the dragged note to stay put?

In Document Options>note spacing, set it to Incorporate.

I also find that adjusting with the Beat Chart tends to restrain the move a little better, if you can use that rather than moving an individual note.

I found the above suggestion does not work. It still snaps to the crowded position. How do I use Beat Chart to fix this?

You access the beat chart through the measure tool. Details should be in your help files.

It would also be helpful to see just what the problem is. Can you post the file?

Before you can attach a .mus document here, you must compress it, e. g. as a .zip file. And the file size must not be more than max. 100 KB.

I have attached it. You see in measure 1 the triplet figure in layer 2. The first note is crowded. I drag it, looks OK, then click the cursor in blank space outside the stave, and it snaps back to the crowded positioning. It should look more like measure 2.

Here is my shot at the layout.

I recommend that you de-select "Automatic Music Spacing" (in the Program Options).
