Hi,
I'm having a persistent problem which is much easier to show using music than to describe: For example, if I write G-sharp in layer 1, and then I need a G-natural in layer 2 within the same measure as the G-sharp, Finale 2010 will not let me write that G-natural. I discovered online that this problem is quite well known and I was extremely surprised to see that apparently it continues to persist. My only way around this issue has been to use the "parentheses" which is technically incorrect to use in such a circumstance but at least it will physically show the natural sign. Are there any solutions available to this problem?
Thank you again, Julian

In the circumstance you describe, you need to force Finale to show the natural on the layer-2 G. In Speedy, that's the asterisk * key, not the P (forced accidental in parentheses) key.

Actually—there is one problem: As you instructed, when I use the asterisk, it does force the accidental to appear on my screen, but when I print the score, the accidental is not there.

I don't know why that should be, but try this: go ahead and enter the accidental with the P key. Tapping the P again should remove the parentheses.

Thanks Miker. Very odd—I quite Finale (2010) and restarted it, and when I printed that page containing the sharp-sign I put in using the asterisk, the accidental did indeed print this time. I tried what you suggested, just for future use—I was able to do it using a sharp or flat, but it didn't work for applying a natural sign (using the "N" key). Looks like I'm good for now. In general, I've been encountering a number of issues that start acting up after about 30 min. of Finale work—they disappear after quitting and restarting, but the issues are appearing more frequently and the constant quitting/restarting is becoming a major disruption. I wrote to MakeMusic about each of them earlier today.

Not the N key. The P, for "parenthetical accidental." I just tried it in Simple, and it worked correctly, entering a natural, in parentheses. Tapping the P again converted it to just the natural.
